Aviation sports | Bloemfontein Gliding Club | Bloemfontein

a8

Bloemfontein Gliding Club is renowned for service excellence, and attracts pilots from all over the world.

It is located on the Eastern side of the New Tempe Airfield in Bloemfontein and hosts the annual National Gliding Championships. Bloemfontein has some of the best conditions for gliding throughout the whole year. You don’t need your own glider; the club supplies the gliders.

Gliding has a good foundation for power flying and some flying schools give at least 10 hours needed for a PPL if you have your Glider Pilot Licence. At the Bloemfontein Gliding Club, they evaluate on how well you fly and not on how many hours you have flown. They would prefer to have their students do more flights to send you solo, and be sure that you are ready for it.

After the solo flight, there are various exercises and goals to be achieved before getting a licence. A theoretical exam, a radio license and to be medically fit are just some of the requirements.
