THREE MONTH FGASA LEVEL 1 NATURE & MARINE GUIDE QUALIFICATION

This exciting three month academic and practical skills program builds strong foundations for you to enter the guiding industry with confidence.

 The Marine Guide component is a new and exciting addition to the Ulovane courses. Being just half an hour from the sea enables us to share not only the bush but also the sea with our students.
 the Ulovane Environmental Training Academy is one of 3 training providers who offer the Marine guide qualification and are very excited at the prospect of spending even more time exploring the marine side of nature.

21 DAY NATURE EXPERIENCE

 A UNIQUE learning experience for those who have had a life long dream to not just go on holiday to the bush, but to go on holiday and actually learn more about Nature and Wildlife during your holiday.
 During these 21 days we will guide you through three weeks of pure bush exploration; we will give you skills and knowledge that will stay with you forever.
 This course will inspire you and refresh your soul and provide you with a positive and unique way of observing your surroundings.
 The idea of this course is that you may join at anytime during the operational THREE MONTH COURSE.

7 DAY BUSH WHACK EXPERIENCE – for 12 – 18 year olds
 the Ulovane Environmental Training Academy also want to offer this course, as an alternative for parents who wish to see their children in a safe environment during the holidays, having good clean fun and learning a bit more about themselves. Once they have spent one holiday with the Ulovane team, they will be hooked.

AMAKHALA GAME RESERVE & ULOVANE RESERVE

An amazing variety of fauna and flora represent Amakhala Game Reserve including the big 5, cheetah and hyena’s. Ulovane Reserve which boarders Amakhala is operated by Paranthadon Investments – a small company owned by one of our very first Ulovane students.

Bushwise is renowned for producing world class field guides who excel their studies, and this is partly due to the fact that they have highly experienced trainers who work extensively in training, programme logistics, field guiding, and the lodge and ecotourism industry.  Bushwise and its courses are accredited by FGASA and are recognised by FGASA as a training provider.

Their tailormade course provides all practical training in game reserves with dangerous animals. The course structure and syllabus enables students to become competent field guides and to  gain a work placement on a big 5 reserve. Their focus is on producing high quality guides with excellent practical skills and not solely theoretical knowledge.

These course last from 14 to 28 days – no previous experience is necessary and training is very hands-on, starting with the absolute basics. Days are a balance between walks, drives and theory sessions/ lectures. Subject matter is varied and may include anything from animal tracks and signs to safe rifle handling, climatology to 4×4 driving techniques.

The courses are fully supported by FGASA.

Professional Field Guide training course | Ecotraining | Nelspruit

If you are interested in entering the field or simply want to expand your knowledge in the African bush then this course caters for you.

This course has a duration of 1 year and there after you could be qualified with:

-Field Guide FGASA Level 1 Theory (subject to 75% pass mark)
-Advanced Rifle Handling (Basic, Intermediate/back-up, Advanced/Lead)
-SASSETA Competency Certificate – Rifle (qualification – rifle handling only)
-EcoTraining Level 1 exam
-FGASA Trails Guide Back-up
-Wilderness medicine (Level 1 and 2)Basic First Aid
-Birding with Lawson’s Birding Academy
-Field Guide FGASA Level 1 Practical assessment (subject to passing the theory and being deemed competent on a practical assessment)
-Tracking qualification (Level 1, 2 or 3) (optional)
- FGASA Level 2 Theory – work book completed and exam written (75% pass mark)

Lodge experience (approx 6 months) – Ecotraining will assist all students in finding a lodge in Southern Africa as part of their one year training. At the lodge you may have to take on many different duties such as:

-Assist with meeting guest/s at meeting point/airport, carrying their luggage
-Food & Beverage duties
-Reception duties
-General Guiding Duties (can logged towards FGASA level 2 practical assessment)
-Maintenance
-Assisting in the bar, serving drinks, undertaking stock takes
-Housekeeping
