SANCCOB is an accredited and an internationally recognized seabird conservation and rehabilitation institution. They were establishment in 1968, and since then have treated thousands upon thousands of seabirds in distress. With limited resources, SANCCOB contributes to research wherever possible. Their aim is to conserve these sea birds, particularly threatened species.
Training
Their methods to treat birds are used globally and they train conservation officers from CapeNature, SANParks, Robben Island Museum and The City of Cape Town as well as employees of other rehabilitation centres, zoos and aquariums. They have successfully treated hundreds of conservation officers and captive animal management institution staff.
Apart from rehabilitating these oiled birds, they want to raise awareness about conservation through environmental education.
Through education they play a vital role in ensuring that the youth as well as the public develop the ability to deal with environmental challenges and encourage them to take action.
Their Environmental Education programme consists of:
schools visiting SANCCOB
educational talks and lectures with private tours
outreach education programme for underprivileged learners
