Karate Training | Karateka40 | Grahamstown

A7

Karateka40 caters for the mature karateka and this club demonstrates the amazing physical abilities that the body can do when you set your mind to it. Karateka has produced four shodans, including two ladies while some of their older members are in their eighties!

Despite physiological changes as you get older,  you can improve your flexibility and  improve your martial arts skills ….flexibility after 40 is absolutely possible.

In order to improve flexibility, one should stretch daily (static and not ballistic) and ensure that you work the full range of motion in all movements. Stretch all the major muscle groups. Make sure you breathe properly whilst stretching. Increased blood pressure is a special concern for the over 40’s.

Their karate club is headed by Lyndon Brandt Sensei who is qualified officially as an instructor. He has his 3rd Dan – 3rd degree black belt, teacher-level grade, teaching all classes himself. His students routinely gain medals at regional and national tournaments and he has brought several students to black belt level.

The JKA (Japan Karate Association) style of karate, sometimes called Shotokan, is the world’s largest karate organisation, and this is the only karate club in Grahamstown authorised to teach JKA karate.

Self protection in South Africa is becoming the most important training offered in South Africa today. It’s no use having other types of training if you can’t defend yourself  from the increasing threat of crime. Today’s self protection strategies have  to be fast, direct and uncompromising.

The outstanding protection technique used at Wing Tsun Xtreme come from Hong Kong. The Leung Ting WingTsun System is the most effective and most popular form of Self Protection on planet earth, and as the Wing Tsun was designed to deal with the attacks of southern Chinese fighting styles – Siu Nim Tao (Little Idea), Chum Kiu (bridging Arms) Biu Tze (Thrusting Fingers), the Wooden Dummy, Long Pole and Butterfly knives – they will be extremely effective when used here.

Self Protection is more than technique and you will learn how to recognize a threat and body positions which create time and space, legal aspects and about applying the right procedure.

You will learn -

  • fighting techniques in all aspects
  • kicking, striking, infight, anti grappling, ground fighting
    defence against multiple assailants
    non-violent restraints
    counter weapon and weapon fighting

Don’t think you are immune from an attack; do something positive while you can … you will be more than glad that you decided to invest in this type of training.
