Our beautiful fifty five stables are spacious and airy. We have experienced grooms that take great care of horses stabled here. Our stables have twenty four hour supervision, fly control and horse showers.

They were established in 1981 by Isabel Verwey and they offer a relaxed atmosphere, catering for competitive as well as non-competitive riders of all ages. There are 60 stables on 11 hectares at this Centre.
Experienced instructors will first assess you to determine your ability before placing you in a small group. Their focus is on building confidence and advancing your riding skills.
They offer a wide range of courses for both the novice and experienced riders. Intensive riding tuition can also be arranged. The school horses include ex-competition horses and a selection of quiet and well schooled horses which are retained for novice riders.

As a qualified physiotherapist, Patrick Thomas works with horses with an initial strong emphasis on sports physiotherapy. He runs his own equine practice, and pursues an interest in antiretroviral rollout and healthcare management in South Africa. He still administers the equine physio practice, and continues to consult on cases and offer certain courses.
There are no courses planned. All courses, except the comprehensive Equine Massage course, are organized for five or more participants.
You will have to contact Patrick regarding these interesting courses as there isn’t enough space to include all the details. Also refer to their website.
An idea of what the courses include:
- electrotherapy – you will learn to use a TENS machine
- equine forelimb dissection & discussion
- equine stretch
- soft tissue release
- equine massage – for anyone wanting to learn equine massage for therapy or maintenance and well being. Theory and practical massage course covering basic anatomy and neurology, massage techniques, stretching, equine behaviour, exercises and much more.

Athenry Equestrian Centre has excellent facilities - stables, dressage arena, jumping arena, lunge arena, tack room and ablution facilities, etc and training shows have been very successfully hosted.
There is a beginner to intermediate jumping group lesson on Saturday mornings from 8 – 9 and an intermediate to advanced jumping group lesson from 9h00 to 10h00. Lunge lessons are available by arrangement.
The instructors are excellent – collectively they are highly qualified and are South African National Equestrian Federation (SANEF) and FEI 1 qualified. Between them, they have many years of riding experience, teaching showjumping, dressage and cross country for anyone from beginners to highly competitive riders.
